Erectile dysfunction medicines seized in Glengormley
8 April 2011
Large amounts of unlicensed medications have been seized by Department of Health officials during a search of a house in Glengormley.
A male was talked to by department officers about illegally importing and subsequently supplying unlicensed impotence medicines through the web.
The 47-year-old was likewise questioned about other medication offences.
He will now be the topic of a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
The search was performed by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.
Its senior enforcement office, Peter Moore, said: "It is crucial that we get the message across that unlicensed medications can be hazardous.
"These kinds of items being offered, online, have actually undergone no quality control and there can be no assurance about their safety.
"You just do not understand what you are taking or the conditions these items were made in. More significantly, you do not understand the effect drugs like this might have on your health."
